Kelham Island Victorian Christmas Market

Yes, it's that time again. Loads of South Riding regulars, and more than a few new faces, will be there, so make sure you are too! A great day out for families and recluses alike, and a haven for weirdly suitable last minute presents. December 2nd and 3rd at Kelham.

Hepworth Folk Club - New Venue

Hepworth Folk Club is changing venue. Previously run at the Old School Inn, the club now meets at the Red Lion (centre of town, off Hepworth market place). Fortnightly on Mondays, 8.30 pm to 11.00 pm. For more information please phone (01427) 872010.

Diatonia

Diatonia is a young folk band based in and around Sheffield. We are two sets of sisters, the four of us sing, dance and play a range of different instruments: fiddles, flutes, whistles, ukelele, keyboard, dance and vocals.

We first met four years ago through the Hope Valley Squeeze Box Project, where we learnt to clog dance and develop our musical skills in the traditional way. We decided to form a band about six months ago, and in those six months we have achieved a lot, and now have a wide and exciting repertoire. We all love playing folk music but we also have a range of material from accapella singing to playing and dancing at the same time! We have also written a lot of our own material but do still enjoy playing through the good old session tunes!

We are available for concerts, street entertainment, festival workshops, etc. For more information please phone (01433) 631907 or email diatonia@windses.free-online.co.uk.

Calling all Viola Players

Does anyone out there play viola in sessions, for dance or as sone accompaniment? If you do, or if know someone who does, please contact Lindsay Aitkenhead, currently undertaking postgraduate studies in Folk Music in Sheffield University's Music Department. If you happen to have a load of wax cylinders of old folk viola players then Lindsay would like to know about that too (so would we all!).

Lindsay plays viola herself in the very wonderful Tashbain and wishes it to be known that she is really chuffed to be named after our local string quartet. Please help if you can!
