The weather was kind to us this year, and altogether 168 musicians played two sets of tunes for the dancers. Beside large numbers of fiddles, guitars, mandolins, whistles, flutes, squeezeboxes and assorted percussion, we spotted some instruments less often seen in sessions: a Chinese Sheng, a bassoon, 'cello and double bass, English bagpipes and at least one saxophone, for instance. Nobody seems to have managed a piano, mind, and there were no tubas, either! Have a look through the photos and see what else you can spot.
Now begins the long process of verifying the record with Guinness. It took around six months for Ryburn to get their Calderdale Longsword world record confirmed, so we don't expect fast results. We'll keep you posted.
Meanwhile, here is a selection of pictures of the event. Each image will also be a link to a larger version of the photo, as soon as your editor has time to optimise them for the web. Note that at present the links lead nowhere.
Thanks for photos to Ron & Jenny Day (landscape) and Derek West (portrait). We'll also be adding Derek's other photos of the day as soon as we can.
